Hazem Saleh�has ten years of experience in Java EE, Portal and Open Source technologies. He worked as a technical consultant for many clients in Europe (Sweden), North America (USA, Canada), South America (Peru), Africa (Egypt, Morocco), and Asia (Qatar, Kuwait, KSA). He is an Apache MyFaces committer and the founder of many open source projects. Beside being the author of the "JavaScript Unit Testing" book and the co-author of the "Definitive guide to Apache MyFaces" book, Hazem is also an author of many technical articles, a developerWorks contributing author and a technical speaker in both local and international conferences such as the IBM Regional Technical Exchange in Johannesburg, CON-FESS Vienna and JavaOne (San Francisco, Moscow, and Shanghai). Hazem is now working for IBM Egypt as an advisory software engineer. He is a WebSphere Portal and Web 2.0 SME.

Good but not perfect

The book itself is a crash course in JSF with extensive JSF 2.2 coverage and component coverage.
The first part of the book is an introduction into JSF and JSF 2.2, the second part walks you through component creation the third part covers two of the most widely used component libs and the fourth part walks you through an entire JSF application utilizing JEE 7.

Well what should I say, while I wished some parts were covered more deeply, like the already extensive component creation part or the JEE application walkthrough which should have gotten more explanatory coverage in the JEE area, I personally guess that the book as JSF 2.2 reference and as a tutorial book for JSF fullfills its purpose very well.

The problem I see simply is if you want to cover component creation for JSF on its own with all the special cases for different component types, you probably need a book on its own, the same goes for a full blown JEE application with all its little details on which pattern to apply where and why, this would be also another book which then should omit the JSF tutorial part.

I will give the book 4 stars as very good jsf 2.2 and component creation reference and good jsf tutorial, but one star less due to the lack of depth especially in the application walkthrough which should have gotten a bit more explanation on the JEE side of things.

the book has a GREAT introduction to jsf with perfect code to run

im a beginner and am struggling learning java ee .. i give this book a four star only because i ran into missing code.. i have made it to chapter 5 so far. the book has a GREAT introduction to jsf with perfect code to run.. no errors. i can say i have learned alot so far. when i hit chapter 5 i ran into problems with missing code where i could not run the code because of missing ejb sessions or code bits.. i understand the book does not cover ejb but to see the jsf implemented on the web the entire code must run without errors..

needless to say i have learned a good deal about jsf.

the faces flow introduced in jsf2.2 is mediocre at best. no examples just an introduction that it does exist.
the tag (upload files to servers) introduced in jsf2.2 again does not work again missing bean sessions. so would i suggest an alternative yes i would only problem is there are not any good books on jsf on the market that i have seen so far

maybe Mastering JavaServer Faces 2.2-Leonard seems to be a good book but haven't completed reading it yet
or
javaserver faces complete reference by ed burns older version but seems to be very comprehensive

It's been a long time since I've loved a book so much

I don't even LIKE short stories, but I was intrigued by the title, and read the story with the same title while at the store. I bought the book because once i read the first passage I wanted to stand in front of the shelf, there, like an idiot, reading every page till my lower back ached.

Instead, I took it home and read every single story, completely mesmerized. Susan Jackson Rodgers' writing is so familiar and simple that you feel like you could write that way, except you know you never could, because each one leaves you invigorated and touched and a little weepy, and no matter what you do, you will be a schlub in front of a bookshelf with an aching back, and not someone who can write in a touching, invigorating, weep-inducing way.

This book is so good... once I started, I could not put it down! Humorous, with scenes and ideas that make you smile and reminisce. Great stories that are so pleasurable to read, the author is a true wordsmith. Highly recommended.

I've already reviewed 'The First 90 Days.' This Amazon offering simply adds an HBR article to that book, so I'll focus on the HBR article.

To successfully transition, executives must navigate a tricky set of changes in their leadership focus and skills - 'The Seven Seismic Shifts.' They must move from specialists, analyst to integrator, tactician to strategist, bricklayer to architect, problem solver to agenda setter, warrior to diplomat, and supporting cast member to lead role. Too often they instead start by overmanaging the function they knew well and undermanaging the others. In some instances they have gained experience by rotating through various functions or working on cross-functional projects.

I wish I'd had this book ten years ago

I have two horses and six acres. I'd owned my horses for a long time but had always boarded. When I retired, I finally got to have acreage of my own and my horses at home. And lord, I wish I'd had this book. Now I wish I had enough money to implement the ideas from it.

The book discusses what you need a tractor *for*, and if you've only boarded, it may not dawn on you that since a full-sized horse produces about 40 lb of manure in a day, over a year you're going to have to figure out what to do with almost seven TONS of manure per horse. It may not dawn on you that those lovely green pastures need to be mowed several times a year, even with hungry critters chowing down on them, and trust me, your little lawn tractor is not going to do the job. That doesn't even get into post holes, stump grinding, and all the other things you may need a tractor for. This book describes most tractors, how to choose one, and what you can do with it. It also describes other equipment you're likely to need, such as trucks, horse trailers, and attachments.

It does *not* talk in any detail about articulating tractors, which disappointed me. Articulating tractors, such as Steiner and Ventrac, are designed to work better on property with some slope to it, and many injuries and fatalities are associated with using tractors and other such equipment on steeper slopes than they're designed for. Maybe a newer edition will cover this technology.

This book is stellar!

This book is a wonderful, motivational, candid explanation regarding how we can overcome any obstacle or setback. The author has done an exceptional job highlighting the importance of remembering God's promises and pressing onward toward our life goals. The text is very well written and the content is superb. There is wisdom in this book for everyone in any season of life. However, it was particularly enlightening to glean strategies for adapting to changes that often come along with having a family. There were quite a few moments of revelation for me while reading this book! It was very well worth the investment and I'm certain I'll refer to it in the future. The author states, "Lasting change happens when we shift from an instant-gratification mindset to a lifestyle mindset." So profoundly true!

Great book for a boost of encouragement!

Kendra is an amazing person who is always encouraging and spreading positive words of encouragement and affirmation. She has been an inspiration to me, as I've watched her balance all areas of her life from work, to home to church! There are so many great tips in this book, so make sure you get your stickies ready so you can bookmark and refer back. love the section called "endurance to stay married"; there were many great reminders! I am happy that Kendra decided to share her experience and knowledge all in this book so that people can reference it when they need that extra boost of encouragement to know that despite their current situation, they are indeed "stronger than you [they] think."

This book is a needed reminder that our thinking sometimes "stinks." And even if you're thinking lines up correctly today, it may, and most likely will, "tank" sometime soon - without notice. This book is a perfect help and encouragement and "how to" to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again. No one else will do it for you. Paralleling running, the author (Kendra Tillman) reminds us that we are in a life marathon and a good fight of faith - both require strength, endurance, and perseverance. We should all read (& re-read!) this book to help us become a strong link rather than a weak link, in our own lives and in our circle of influence.

About the Author
Jake Lynch is a BBC television news anchor and reporter, a former Political Correspondent for Sky News and Sydney Correspondent for the Independent newspaper. He and Annabel McGoldrick are joint directors of Reporting the World, which the Observer newspaper called “the nearest thing we have to a journalism think-tank.”

Annabel McGoldrick is an experienced reporter and producer in radio and television, having covered conflicts in Indonesia, Thailand and Burma. She produced the BBC documentary, Against the War, with Harold Pinter, during the Nato bombing of Yugoslavia. She and Jake Lynch are joint directors of Reporting the World, which the Observer newspaper called, “the nearest thing we have to a journalism think-tank.” Annabel chairs RtW seminars for senior journalists in London.
