So so

I am currently studying for the GCS exam and was using this a secondary read along with the FOCUS material. I stopped reading this as it is very basic information and is not much of an informative read with anything out of the ordinary or ground breaking. I have actually found the Geriatric Rehabilitation Manual, 2e a lot more helpful and informative. This book is just so-so.

I've read the series, and seriously this is the best series I've read in a long time! I was afraid this was the last book and I'm so happy it's not! Now to find out when the next one is out!! Highly recommend this to everyone!! I'm also reading Thomas Prescott series and loving it too!!

I've loved this series however even though this segment is longer it still was lacking in depth. I thought that too much time at the beginning was spent on the light hearted banter with the pets. The real "mystery" was too limited and not very believable. The previous book in the series left the reader with a much more serious "cloud" that begged to be explained. This book danced around the subject and never developed the previous story line further. Although I love the dialog with the cats, I'm really interested in the underlying story line with the "how" and "why" of the Bins family.

More meat please!

Awesome as always

Well I started the book at 6:08 am and now it is 8:56 am and I just finished it. Loved it. I kept trying to figure out who done it and doing my own little crime investigation. That to me makes a strong book. When you immerse yourself in it. I also wanted to be at the wedding and play with Archie. I have an Archie. But he just knocks down the TV remote off the nightstand early every morning. Breakfast time for him!

Anyway, I wish Nick's stories never ended. I enjoy them so much. The plot twists, the humor, which by the way is great and the characters all make for an enjoyable read. Nothing to heavy. Just pure enjoyment.

I only have one problem with these books. They end. And I have to wait spook long for the next one :(

So Nick , I have a favor to ask. WRITE FASTER!!

Read the book. Read the series. Read all his stuff. You will enjoy them. Quick easy enjoyable reads.

The OS X missing manual series never disappoints, thank you Mr Pogue.

David writes this series in a way that will help anyone using this latest OS. From a Mac newbie who needs to understand preferences, the finder, etc, to someone who has been using Macs since the classic. I learned my lesson over a decade ago, I might find answers on line to help navigate the latest OS, or I can have the missing manual at hand. The book pays for itself in the time saved to troubleshoot something you've never run into before. To be clear, I'm talking about the paper version. I saw the first reviews come in regarding the Kindle version. I can only say my prior copies are highlighted, sticky noted, and dog-eared.

I'm on page 28 and I've learned a dozen things already

I'm a computer instructor who has used OS X for about two years...after having used Windows machines since the days of DOS. So as a Windows power user, changing over to the Mac has involved a steep learning curve. And although my MacBook Pro is the fastest and most reliable computer I've ever used, my OS X skills are pretty ordinary...so I know I'm not getting all I could out of the machine.

I REALLY like to know all of the little tricks and options to make a computer work exactly the way I like. This Missing Manual is getting me a lot closer to the OS X power user I want to become. Like all of the Missing Manuals, this book is well-written and contains a wealth of helpful info. Like my review title says, I've barely cracked the book and I've already learned a lot of excellent info. Just get this book, you won't regret it!

Don't upgrade without it

In this day and age of "Help" actually meaning online chat or topics browsing or support forums, it's essential to have a good text in black and white close by, at hand. What if your Mac or PC won't boot up? What if your Mac's or PC's browser continually crashes because of a drive problem? What if you simply cannot access the web? Uh, duh .... And I'm not about to gobble up my data allowance on my iPhone potchkeying around a hundred sites for a fix. Much of what pops up in searches is two, three and four years old, seriously out of date and out of touch.

The OS X El Capitan text in the ongoing series of "The Missing Manual" proved it was well worth its cost not two weeks after I had upgraded my older iMac desktop from Lion to El Capitan and hit a sudden drive problem that immediately stalled my browser with the dreaded spinning ball of death, repeatedly. By researching several possible solutions in the manual, I was able to boot up into a safe mode, access the utility, get the drive self-repaired and the browser conflict resolved. Having the book close by saved me a lot of time as well as the cost and wear 'n' tear of taking my iMac into the store. You have to remember that no matter what your level of familiarity or expertise with Macs and PC's, upgrading to a brand new operating system can very quickly throw you into a state of real unknown. Much of what once worked on the old OS, no longer applies at all.

good reference book

I work as an analytical chemist mainly using IR and Raman for unknown identification and for studying various chemical reactions.

This book, together with the The Handbook of Infrared and Raman Characteristic Frequencies of Organic Molecules by Lin~Vien, are the two books that I use almost on a daily base. With the electronic IR/Raman library becoming more and more popular, it is no longer necessary for your to remember all the peak frequencies/intensity. But having a book that compiles all the group frequencies and explains how the various chemical environments could affect the vibrational modes is a must-have if you are a serious vibrational spectroscopist.

i usually use this book for quick reference of the charts or look up a band at a particular frequency. When I want a systematic description of a particular modes or a class of molecules, I would use the book from Lin-Vien. But both book contain both (charts and texts/description/explanation). This book looks more modern and slightly better-organized.

This book is a great reference for analyzing FTIR data. It is very complete and with it in paperback, easy to tote around. The organization of this book is logical and is a great quick reference.

The third ebook in a joint collaboration between T.F. Wright and Volkenfox.

After injuring her foot in a race, Becky the rabbit goes becomes very depressed because she came in second place. Where she gains weight, finds new nerdy friends that accept her new self; then competes her transition into an obese nerd.

T.F. Wright is very efficient with his writing. He knows what needs to happen and doesn't meander around and doesn't put in pointless fluff. If there is a slight flaw in the ebook while Becky is a decent character, the supporting ones are a little on the flat side.
The transition from an athletic track star to fat nerd is pretty well done. The illustrations Volkenfox are excellent and complement the story being told rather than overshadowing it.

If you like weight gain and furries, you will definitely enjoy this story!

Great illustrations! Disappointing narrative...

I purchased this story a few months back as the subject matter peeked my interest. Unfortunately, I found the overall product to be rather disappointing. Rather than going into a lengthy explanation, I'm choosing instead to go with a simple pro and con breakdown.

Pros:

- Excellent descriptions
- Great use of illustrations
- Well intentioned message

Cons:

- Serious pacing issues, especially early on
- Poor development of supporting characters
- Over reliance on stereotypes
- Possibly offensive representation of gamers
- Unlikeable main protagonist
- Message gets botched due to major imbalances in narrative and character actions

So yes, the only parts of this story I really enjoyed were the descriptions and illustrations, but I found the characters to be very poorly written, either being jerks or stereotypes. Becky is easily the worst offender. Her initial reaction to the injury makes her come off as shallow and petty, and the events and choices she makes over the course of the story make her appear ignorant at best and stupid at worst. She learns a good lesson by the end, but her health and the state of her life went way down hill.
To sum up my thoughts, good intentions became completely botched due to cartoonish extremes and inconsistent development of narrative and characters. Nice drawings though.

This is an excellent book for teaching sunday school.Easy to follow guide. We had a sunday school teacher who had never taught before and her first lesson was a success for her and the students. I personally like to give the children interactive games and this book doesnt seem to have that. It does however, have crafts, games, puzzles and provides children with an opportunity to identify with the word of God. our teachers all have different styles of teaching and we all make use of this book.

The remaining five chapters concern specific approximation methods, interpolation, smoothing and least-squares approximation, the solution of an ordinary differential equation by collocation, curve fitting, and surface fitting. The present text version differs from the original in several respects. The book is now typeset (in plain TeX), the Fortran programs now make use of Fortran 77 features. The figures have been redrawn with the aid of Matlab, various errors have been corrected, and many more formal statements have been provided with proofs. Further, all formal statements and equations have been numbered by the same numbering system, to make it easier to find any particular item. A major change has occured in Chapters IX-XI where the B-spline theory is now developed directly from the recurrence relations without recourse to divided differences. This has brought in knot insertion as a powerful tool for providing simple proofs concerning the shape-preserving properties of the B-spline series.

Splines are more than you thought

This is a very nice book about splines for all who needs interpolation of data and are getting a bit nervous about the somewhat improper behaviour of normal cubic splines, i.e., the ones you learned about in your undergrad exam. The author provides both illustrative examles with computer codes (in FORTRAN) and describes the necessary theoretical background. Compared with many other books, it is readable also for a non-mathematician, although some experience with numerical analysis will be most helpful.

de Boor's "A Practical Guide to Splines"

This is absolutely the most excellent book on the subject ever written. It is rigorous, accessible to those who are not professional mathematicians, and full of examples. Using de Boor's public domain software is a cinch, but you need to read the book to fully understand how to do it properly. I really wonder how I got along without it all these years.
