I am really hoping this is the start of a long series.

Catalina Bennett is a gruesome creation of ice and beauty, a contract killer trained by an entire mob family of contract killers. Each generation creates one inspired in death, and this time she's tall and gorgeous. There is certainly the stench of the psychopath in this character, whose interactions are brief, even those with her family.
The bulk of this book was a cracking plot and action scenes that were clear, and moved along at a good pace. I'd like to see a bit more of the character coming out next time. There is room for that if this develops into a series, and Brankin has left plenty of room for that with the ending of this book.
The start of the book required some concentration, as Brankin bounces us around with different characters, locations and times, until she starts to pull it all together. It certainly hangs together well, and I am looking forward to reading the next one.

The "FANTASTIC" Family Girl

It's about time that there is a strong female action hero that would give James Bond a fair fight, Catalina Bennett is one deadly hit woman who knows how to get the job done, look good doing it and yet she still finds time to love and take care of her family and especially her niece. Smart, savvy & knocking 'em dead in more ways than you can imagine in her red soled Louboutin's and matching hot wardrobe for whatever the occasion calls for. A connoisseur of fine art, finer weapons, fast cars, faster boats, cool companions with cooler dispositions. Watch out for this Cat as she prowls through suburbia to other exotic locales, can't wait to read the follow-ups. The Family Girl, bring her home to meet Mom, just hope that Mom makes it out Alive! Get this book, you won't put it down. I never did. Two Guns, I mean, Thumbs UP. Nice Job Ms. Brankin, keep killing us with more!

A FUN Read!

Prior to this book, mob family females were primarily portrayed as pampered women sheltered from the business — but The Family Girl breaks that mold. The lead character is a combination of Audrey Hepburn, Carrie Bradshaw and Jackie Brown; she totally kicks ass. The book was fun, fast-paced and fascinating. In fact, I kept wondering if the author might actually be from this underground world because while it was a fun and frisky read, it also seemed to have some plausible explanations for how & why a lot of this stuff is done. By the end of the book I determined that Ms. Brankin is either a diabolical genius or, indeed, the quintessential Family Girl. I want to read more from her.
