Dark and Totally Twisted!

**Warning Extremely Dark Non-Con**

What the hell did I just read? I loved it, I hated it, and I wanted more of it.

As of late I've been exploring more of the darker non-con books and then I happened on to this one. Yeah, I wanted dark, and I wanted non-con and I got exactly that and more. This is a very hardcore dark non-con read that starts with abduction and is non-stop torture. All very explicit and aggressive. And one of the most graphically disturbing books I've read. And the best part? It was plausible and very believable.

Mark is one twisted individual, obsessed with a BDSM porn star, Emily. He's watched her for years, has all of her movies and has stalked her enough to know her daily routines, her family, friends and where they all live, and he has a plan to finally make Emily his.

Mark kidnaps Emily and takes her home where he completely breaks her down and makes her his slave. But it's the way he does things that will totally twist you up, make you think you can't read another page but at the same time you can't look away. That is exactly what this book did to me. I could not stop reading.

This book is full of degradation, humiliation, and heavy S&M to include water sports, forniphilia, bondage, rape, branding, piercing, sodomy. All manner of whips, floggers, canes, and suspension hooks. Oh my! And let's not forget the cage in the closet.

The total mind bender in all of this is how the author actually made me feel for Mark at the end. What? Really? Not only was my mind twisted up by the end of this book, but so was my heart.

This book left me wanting more. An epilogue would have been nice. A "One Year Later" type of chapter.

A very well-written book. Almost unflinchingly evocative at times.
Mark is definitively sadistic and more than a little crazy in his obsession of the beautiful Emily.
Yet the reader can sympathize with his computer nerd personality. It sounds like he might have been the geek who was picked on in school and didn't grow into his looks until college, like many of us. Perhaps that is why he got into the BDSM lifestyle. The only way he felt he could get a woman or gratification of any kind was through domination.
At first it seems like he plans to treat Emily like a queen but things quickly get out of hand. It isn't long before she is made his sex slave, stripped of everything including clothing and often denied things including the right to eat, privacy, and often made to sit in a cage for hours on end after brutal whippings.
But there are tender moments too, such as gentle kisses when he applies salve to the welts he makes on her naked flesh with the whip. Or the way he sometimes holds her in bed. Through it all Emily sees him not just as her tormentor but also as a man that she desires and desires to please.
When eventually Mark professes his love to his captive she almost says it back, but something stays her tongue. Shortly after, he decides he is sorry for inflicting so much pain upon the person he loves more than himself, as if torturing her could beat her into accepting him as his lover. But he realizes though he can force Emily to do almost anything, he can't force her to give him what he wants the most, her heart.
He decides he loves her enough to let her go after he slowly reintroduces her to normal life.
She will live like a guest in his house until he takes her to the bus station, dressed in the finery he had originally intended to drape her in as he gives her back what he once took from her the right to eat, talk whenever she wants to, shackled no longer. In return he will treat her as an equal and not touch her as he did as her Master which strangely, Emily finds she misses, especially alone in the guest room at night.
Emily has missed her freedom, but seems reluctant to leave Mark.
Yet she doesn't protest about his plan, even when they have a last night of passion together in which he gives her no rules, no boundaries, even allowing her the release he had denied her so many times before.
At the end he leaves his beloved at the bus station with regrets and his number, believing she will never use it.
Bereft and sad, Emily reaches into her pocket for pay phone money, not able to get her Master out of her mind.
I had really hoped for one more chapter, maybe a reunion between Emily and Mark at a hotel room when she says she does have feelings for him, but their story ends there.
It looks like Emily decided she wanted to be with Mark wherever he planned to go next, even if he decided to flee the country since he is now a criminal.
Or will the police ever hunt him down?
I wonder if we'll ever know.

Four and a half stars, but I rounded up.
This was a dark, intriguing tale that I couldn't put down. I read it in one night. I liked the hardcore S&M and the psychological aspect of this story. Too often books will say they have BDSM in them and they're mere spankings and light bondage. This story had so much more than that.
I'm aware in real life BDSM is supposed to be SSC, but this is fiction and in capture fantasy stories I don't want all those rules and negotiations. I want dark, gritty, and psychological. This story was indeed that and more. The fact that the guy loved/obsessed over her in his own twisted sort of way added touching elements to the story that gave a nice depth to balance the brutal parts.
It would have been a perfect five if the sex scenes had more detail. Most were less than a page or a mere paragraph in a few instances. They were good. I just wanted more detail. There was quite a bit of oral sex. I think it's wonderful, but it got a bit repetitive.
Still, this was a great story and one I know I'll read again. The ending was a bit quick, but it was still a good closing scene. I really liked this book and will read more from this author.

About the Author

Graham Sellers is the API lead on the Vulkan spec. He is AMD Software Architect and Engineering Fellow, represents AMD at the OpenGL ARB. He has actively contributed to the core Vulkan and OpenGL specs and extensions, and holds several graphics and image processing patents.

John Kessenich is the language lead on the Vulkan spec. He is Senior Compiler Architect at LunarG Inc., has been active in OpenGL, GLSL, Vulkan, and SPIR-V development in the OpenGL ARB and in Khronos since 1999. He created the SPIR-V intermediate language and is its specification editor. get this book if you need to know how to make drinks

Lots of good info, organized into an easy to understand manual. If you take the time to read this, you will definitely know a lot more about how to make drinks - the science behind things, and lots of neat tips. But it's not overwhelming, very user friendly, and written for easy comprehension.

Leaves out all the fluff

Amazingly good read. I've been recommending it to others who aren't knowledgeable about bartending. It doesn't tell you HOW to bartend, it explains what you NEED to bartend. It goes over popular drink mixtures, how different alcohols are made, what type of barware you need to make all of your drinks, and what a basic bar needs to be supplied with. Definitely a good read if you know nothing about making drinks or bartending norms. I've been writing side notes, and highlighting things like crazy.

As with all "for Dummies" books I've read so far, it does a really well job of leaving out the extra "fluff" and useless information and providing you with a pretty clear picture on the topic.

Florentino Garcia Martinez, a pre-eminent specialist of Qumran Studies, is Professor at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, where he heads the Qumran Institute. He is a member of the International Team of Editors of the Dead Sea Scrolls and editorial secretary of the Revue de Qumran and the Journal for the Study of Judaism. Garcia Martinez has written numerous books and articles on the Dead Sea Scrolls, including Qumran and Apocalyptic. Studies on the Aramaic Texts of Qumran (Brill, 1992).

Interesting read but takes a lot of patients to complete the book as it can get very boring at times, but I do appreciate the hard work and effort that went into this very interesting book and it is invaluable to what I want to find out. Plus my favourite part of is the book of Enoch which I was wanted to read as I have heard about it before. I found this section of the book very intriguing.

If you want to know the story and the data in the Dead Sea Scrolls this is the book for you. It is not exhaustive since some of the fragments of the scrolls are not even complete words. Yet it does cover the biblical references in the scrolls.

At the same time, this book argues, this intensification also calls into question modernist ways of looking at language and identity, requiring a more serious engagement with capitalism and how it constitutes symbolic (including linguistic) as well as material markets.

Kenneth Hite does it again

Ever wanted to step out of the archaic world and fight the Outer Dark in a more modern setting? How about in the apocalyptic aftermath of World War II, will that work for you? Well get ready to take up your sword and sidearm, The Day After Ragnarok is on the shelves and daring you to play.

Written by Kenneth Hite, who describes the game as, "'Conan the Barbarian: 1948' meets `Quatermass and the Giant Snake'", Ragnarok is an alternate history game set in a world of swords, sorcery, super science and pulp adventure. This is one of the coolest sword & sanity (see link on my profile for more on this genre) settings I have ever read.

Imagine if the Nazis wanted to summon forth the Midgard Serpent, and unleash it upon the world. Now imagine it worked, ushering forth the day of Ragnarok. J�rmungandr is released upon the face of the earth, along with global chaos and mass destruction. As a last ditch effort the Allies initiate "Operation John Henry" and a lone B-29 named Strange Cargo armed with atomic explosives is sent on a suicide mission to slay the beast. The plane reaches its target, and miraculously manages to kill the Serpent with a megaton atomic blast to the head. But this was not a victory. The earth was changed... spoiled. Atomically radiated venomous blood rained down, and the body of the Midgard Serpent fell, causing tidal waves and earth quakes. Its carcass lay dead stretching from Scotland to Sicily. Madness ensues, and adventure begins...

The setting offers many challenges, including: giants, hydra, serpent cults, mutated animals and insects that have grown to monstrous proportions (giant snakes abound), and don't forget the other survivors of the apocalypse. Characters can range from arcane scholar to barbarian, secret agent to outlaw, and many other possibilities. Sounds fun, huh?

The Day After Ragnarok is a Savage Worlds setting (HERO Edition coming soon) published by Atomic Overmind Press. Even if you do not use Savage Worlds as the game system I feel the setting presented it strong enough to purchase this book anyway. Use the setting and power it with whatever game system you like.

Passable but not thrilling.

I had high hopes for this setting, as Hite's works are usually grand. Unfortunately, I didn't find Day After Ragnarok as exciting as it sounded from other reviews, and people talking about the book.

It is passable, and well written, but it just doesn't have a spark to it that says "play me, right now!" Which I feel all pulp settings should have. It could have used a longer work to truly go into some of the details that are sadly glossed over, and built a few more "strange" ideas than the singular one of the dead Jormundgyr serpent--throwing in more Norse Myth, perhaps some pulp/Nordic magic, or the like.

There isn't praise enough for this two fisted occult adventure guide book. Buy it ASAP! Kenneth Hite is at top form here doing what he does best, creating a wild alternate history for an earth gone mad.
